Find out how we implement sustainability

Find out how we implement sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Our company has a long-term vision. Much attention is paid to establishing sustainable relationships with our colleagues, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. Building added value with and for each other.

NIJHUIS GROUP MAY CARRY THE EUROPEAN GREEN LEAF AWARD 2022 LOGO

So, as a company, we do a lot to produce our products more sustainably and greener. A nice compliment we received is that we are also allowed to carry the logo of the European Green Leaf Award 2022!

The European Commission established this award in 2008 for smaller municipalities and cities (20,000 to 100,000 inhabitants) that stand out in terms of the environment and climate. The European Green Leaf Award is presented annually and is based on a survey of, among others, the entrepreneurs in the respective municipality.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: RECOGNITION 2021

In February 2022, we received the Recognition ‘Toffe Peer 2021’ for being socially engaged as a business owner.

FOCUS ON SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS

An energy-neutral Achterhoek by 2030. That is the goal we have set together in our region. We think it is logical for everyone to do their bit to achieve this: including us.

Saving energy and ensuring sustainable, future-proof operations is important to us. This is why we proactively participate in Achterhoek Onderneemt Duurzaam (AOD).

SUSTAINABILITY IN RELATIONSHIPS

The Nijhuis Group’s core values ensure the creation of lasting relationships. We demonstrate with a rich history that many relationships have existed for more than a century! Furthermore, there is little turnover in our team. Our team is also extremely diverse. At least a third of our team is female, there are colleagues with a disability and our MT even consists of two-thirds women!

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION: HOW DOES THAT WORK FOR US IN PRACTICE?

PRODUCT DURABILITY

First of all, we implement sustainability by making our products from materials manufactured locally with certificates. Thus, under REACH, we know where these raw materials come from and what is in them. We also choose the high-quality versions of the fabrics, so that our products are proven to last two to four times as long and do not contain any harmful substances to health. So this also makes a considerable difference in the use of raw materials. A double win; for the environment and the customer.

RECYCLING

and secondly, in terms of sustainability, we ensure proper recycling of our waste streams. Not only are all materials disposed of separately. We also compress our waste. There is also a daily focus on making maximum use of raw materials, so that nothing ends up in the waste bin unnecessarily. In addition, we are currently investigating whether we can make new products from our waste. In this way, our waste gets a renewed value and we give substance to a circular economy.

SUSTAINABLE PREMISES AND PRODUCTION (PROCESS)

Thirdly, we are continuously examining whether we can implement a stronger sustainability strategy, not only organisationally. We are also proactively making our machinery and premises more sustainable. For instance, our premises and our production process with its machines have been extensively scrutinised via the DOE-Scan of Achterhoek Ondernemen Duurzaam. The overhaul of a high-pressure press has already resulted in a 30% energy reduction.
